The difficulties in interpersonal relationships in a triangular story: a neurotic woman, an idealistic young man, and his mother. Tomek is a clear headed and open-minded geography student. He lives with his mother Zofia, who, like her son, is a sensitive and devout Catholic. When he met Julia, a frustrated woman older than him, he first tried to comfort her and then invited her to live with him and his mother. Tomek went to West Berlin to visit his wealthy father. He refused to accept his money and found a job as a house painter. Julia ultimately received treatment in a sanatorium, while Tomek is trying to get their relationship to function properly.
