Volcanoes, earthquakes, and tornadoes can all cause tremendous damage, and predicting when and where they will strike is crucial. Volcanologist Dr. Marie Edmonds has designed sensors to monitor underground magma activity to better predict future eruptions on Montserrat Island in the Caribbean, which was the site of the 1995 large-scale eruption captured in this film. Dr. Ross Stein, a geophysicist, has studied the earthquake repair records of St. Sophia Cathedral in Istanbul for centuries to find clues to the earthquake history of Türkiye. He discovered seismic patterns along the long North Anatolia fault system, including the massive destructive earthquake in Izmit in 1999, and predicted the next earthquake a few miles south of Istanbul. Dr. Joshua Wurman and his team chased a tornado in a truck equipped with Doppler radar, attempting to detect its interior during its birth.
