Edith Hardy is investing in Wall Street with a charity fund in the hope of buying some new dresses. She lost all her money and borrowed money from the wealthy Oriental Tory. When her husband lent her the money she borrowed, Tori wouldn't take it back, but instead stamped the Japanese symbol of his ownership on her shoulder. She shot him. Her husband assumed responsibility. In court, Edith revealed everything to the angry mob. By Ed Stephan{ stephan@cc.wwu.edu }Richard Hardy is a diligent stockbroker who works overtime to pay the devastating bills brought by his beautiful but irresponsible wife Edith. Edith was a greedy and pampered socialite who was indifferent to his call for financial restraint. Based on what she believed to be insider information, she impulsively misappropriated $10000 as a stock tip from the Red Cross charity she hosted. When she found out that she had lost her money, she desperately turned to a Japanese ivory trader and persuaded him to exchange the money for a date. When her husband's long awaited business agreement finally came true, she desperately wanted to withdraw from their agreement by replacing the money. "He was angry and disappointed that she had refused his offer, so he marked her shoulder as his property with a branded device.". Edith felt violated, fired a shot in his shoulder, and then left. In order to protect his wife's reputation, Richard admitted his crime and faced a trial of attempted murder. By Gabe Taverney( duke1029@aol.com )
